What is a Bill of Lading?

When you read some or the other moving tips, you come across this tip always- "carefully read and understand the bill of lading." So, what is this bill of lading? It is a document that your shipping company gives you as an evidence of your goods being transported by them to your new destination. It is a valid contract between you- the consignee and the shipping company- about the goods being carried. A bill of lading contains your (the consignee's) name and details about the goods being transported as also how, where and to whom the goods will be delivered? This document- the lading bill is with you when your goods are in the hands of your moving company and in case of any damage or other mishappenings, you can claim your rights through this bill of lading only.
